Aviation Day
On Wednesday, August 18 the Story Time children enjoyed making airplanes in celebration of Aviation Day!
The morning group made airplanes using styrofoam templates. They decorated their planes using stickers and markers. The afternoon group made an airplane called the "Hoopster". To make this plane, you use 1-5inch strip of cardstock and 1-10inch strip of cardstock paper. With each strip of paper, wrap it around turning it into a circle and tape together. Next, take a straw and place a piece of tape, sticky side up, on the table. Place the straw onto the tape and one of the paper circles on top of the straw, making sure they are securely taped together. Now, do the same thing on the other end of the straw with the other paper circle and make sure that the circles are aligned with each other! Finally, the fun part! To fly the plane, throw it with the circles facing up and the smaller circle in the front! Cool, right?!
~Sorry, no pictures!~
Book Lovers Day!
On Wednesday, August 11 the Story Time children enjoyed celebrating Book Lovers Day in a very unique way!
The morning group used pages out of an old book to create a wreath! To make it, they used pre-cut leaf shaped pages that were very colorful! Next, they used glue to attach them around the outer ring of a paper plate! They furthered decorated their wreaths with crayons and markers! They turned out so cute!
In the afternoon group, two crafts were done. The guys made the same wreaths as the other group. But the girls made a purse out of an old book! After the pages of the book were cut out, they got help in cutting out fabric triangles of their choice to create the sides of the purse. Next, they glued those fabric triangles to the sides of the open book creating the shell of the purse. For reinforcement and to cover up the raw edges of the fabric, pages from the book were glued to it. Finally, they used ribbon to create a handle for their purse! They all turned out awesome!

Back to School
On Wednesday, August 4 the Story Time children enjoyed making pencil cases for the start of school in a few days! Along with making the cases, they also listened to a story about what school used to be like hundreds and hundreds of years ago!
To make the case, they used a cardboard roll that was prewrapped in red paper and decorated it using stickers and markers! Cool!
Next week we'll be celebrating Book Lovers Day! We'll have a fun craft planned for you! Hope to see you there!
