Kids! The Summer Reading Program was a blast! All the kids enjoyed "Making a Splash" and reading with us this summer!
We had over 70 kids to participate in our programs! Wow! We hope to see you all again next year!
Make a Splash! - Bathtub Fun
On Wednesday, June 30, the "Make a Splash! Summer Reading Program kicked off with Bathtub Fun! The kids enjoyed several bathtub related activities!
Everyone knows you can't have a bath without a rubber duckie! For a craft, the kids were given crayons to decorate a white rubber duck so they can have their own personalized duck for bathtime. I saw a blue and green polka dotted duck and one full of every color in the rainbow! They looked awesome!!
Along with decorating a rubber duckie, they also learned how to draw a duck using simple letters of the alphabet! They used a "C" to create the head and body, a "V" for the beak, and a "W" for the webbed feet! Cool!
During the Story Time portion, they listened to two stories! One entitled "Baby's Bathtime" in which it was time for the baby's bath and all the fun he had while taking it! The other story was "Ducky for President" where Ducky was running for president and he even won, too!
The best part had to be the Spongeball Fight with loufas. To the music of "Splish, Splash, I was takin' a bath.." the kids enjoyed throwing loufas at each other and dancing with the music!
Don't forget to keep track of any books you read in your reading log! Also, remember that if you wear your shirt to next week's program, Beach Party, you'll get a prize!

Make a Splash! - Beach Party!!
On Wednesday, July 7 children of all ages enjoyed our beach party at the Library! From listening to stories to learning about seashells to crafts, the kids had a blast!
The morning group had fun making two crafts wheras the afternoon made only one. They both made their own beach or sea life portrait in a picture frame using scrap paper and stickers! They all looked really cool! The morning group also made puppets, either a dolphin or a seahorse. They all had fun pretending their dolphins and seahorses were swimming underwater!
Mrs. Roseanna taught the kids all about seashells and even brought a whole bag full of real seashells from the beach! Cool! They had fun trying to find the smallest shell or the biggest shell or even the one that you can hear the ocean in!
As a surprise they all enjoyed another loufa fight, there were even a few beach balls thrown in there, too! They also were given waterproof containers that they can store money, trinkets or whatever while they're at the beach or waterpark!

Make a Splash - Rainy Day Fun!
On Wednesday, July 14, the children had lots of fun at our Rainy Day program!
The children enjoyed watching short Cat in the Hat videos and completing activity sheets! After watching the videos, they next went to crafts!
For crafts, they made puppets! The morning group had a choice of either making a ladybug or a dragonfly finger puppet! Those all turned out really cute! The afternoon group had a choice of either making the same or a lion, tiger or elephant puppets! Awesome!
The best part of the program was the games! Everyone knows you don't want to be bored on a rainy day! No worries, you can play our games at home, too! The first game that the kids played was called "Clean your Room!" Now it's not what you think, it's actually really fun! All you have to do, is create a dividing line that separates the area into Team 1's room and Team 2's room. Now, we used loufas as our "toys", but you could also use small balls or crumpled paper. After dividing into teams, each "room" received their share of "toys" so both teams start out with a very dirty room! Oh, no! The object of the game is to throw as many of your "toys' into the other team's room, thus cleaning your room. We played a song and once the song was over, the "room" with the least "toys" won!
The other game that was played was a Dress Up Relay race! First, divide the group into two teams and line them up at the starting line. At the finishing line have two piles of oversized clothes. We used hats, button up shirts, and elastic shorts! But you could also include other easy clothes, such as scarves, gloves, and maybe even a skirt. To play the game, when the leader says "Go!", the first person only in each line, races to the other end and puts on one pile of clothes. They then spin around three times, undress and run back to tag the next person in line. The team that finishes first is the winner!
Next week we will be having Outdoor Fun, so be sure to wear a swimsuit and bring a towel!
Make a Splash! Water Slide Fun!
On Wednesday, July 21 the children had lots of fun playing with water outside!
They enjoyed sliding down a water slide and splashing around the mini pool! They also had fun throwing water balloons at everyone! Some even tried to get Ms. Lou, but they never got her! Oh, well, maybe they'll try again next week!
Don't forget next week is our LAST week for all programs! We'll have another water slide for a fantastic finale! Also, if you forget to bring your reading logs, be sure to bring them before next Wednesday!

Make a Splash! Water Slide Finale!
On Wednesday, July 28 the children had even more fun with a HUGE water slide at our finale!
Congratulations to T.T. Richards and Tiana Dawkins for reading the most books this summer! They each read over 60 books! Wow! Also, congratulations to all the kids who turned in a reading log! The prizes for all of our winners were a book, a bug kit, and several bookmarks!
Along with the giant water slide, the slip-n-slide and the pool from last week were up as well! The kids had a blast with all of the fun slides to choose from!
Hey, Parents! If your child attended the morning session, be sure to watch WTVY'S news at 5 and 6 tonight! Maybe your child, or even yourself was caught on camera!
Thanks to all the parents and children who participated in this year's program! We hope to see you all again next year!
